The Teenage Web

Bookmarked The Teenage Web

>Welcome to the Corporate Internet. It didn’t used to be like this. The web used to be a collection of independently-operated sites that we all individually controlled. We used to be so punk rock about the web.

Louie recounts their early experiences on the internet in the 2000s. Like many others, he experienced social networks like MySpace and Twitter, which centralised online communities. At the same time, forums and personal websites became less common. While these platforms made it easier to connect with others, Louie laments the commercialisation of the internet through targeted ads and less focus on individual interests and niche communities.
